THE SIX BEST NATURAL OILS FOR NATURAL HAIR

12th Nov 2021

Natural hair deserves natural care, and we think natural oils are the best way to deliver that TLC.

After many years of testing we’ve come up with a list of 6 natural oils that have consistently delivered great results for ladies with Afro hair.

Here are the oils that we recommend if you’re looking to put moisture back into your hair, make it shiny and make it more manageable.

As an added bonus we’ve found many women reporting that using oils has made their hair grow faster and thicker. We reckon this is down to the vitamins and minerals that are feeding the scalp and the stimulation of blood flow to as you massage the oil into your hair.

ALMOND OIL

Sweet Almond Oil has a long history of improving the shine of your hair and leaving it feeling silky. It was used by the ancient Greeks and Egyptians as part of their beauty regimes.

Almonds are rich in calcium, magnesium zinc and iron and contain various B vitamins as well as vitamin E and D.

COCONUT OIL

Coconut oil moisturises dry hair, adding shine and making it soft. It prevents split ends and hair breakage. The oil can also be effective as a sunscreen, blocking about 20% of UV rays.

OLIVE OIL

Not just for your salad dressing. Olive oil is great of hair as it coats the outer layers of damaged hair sealing moisture and leaving it sleek, smooth and healthy and more manageable. This makes it particularly good for taming frizzy hair.

Olive oil is rich in vitamin A and E.

PALM OIL

We know this oil has got some bad press in recent times, but palm oil has been used by man for over 5,000 years and was prized by the pharaohs in ancient Egypt. The oil is rich in vitamins A, E and K and has moisturising and protecting properties.

If you’re going to use this oil, check that comes from sustainable sources so it doesn’t destroy rainforest.

SUNFLOWER OIL

Sunflower oil has many benefits for hair health by preventing dryness and frizz and preventing the hair from breaking.

It’s packed full of minerals such as calcium, zinc, phosphorus, iron and potassium as well as vitamins A, E, K and E and omega fatty acids.

WHEATGERM OIL

Wheat germ oil is great for repairing damaged hair and also moisturises and conditions the hair.

The oil is extracted from wheat kernels and is abundant in nutrients that nourish and condition hair. It contains high amounts of proteins, vitamins A, B, D and E as well as iron and phosphorus.

Oils are best for deep conditioning where you massage the oil into your hair and scalp and leave it there for at least half an hour before washing and styling as normal.

You can test out to see which oils work best for your hair. If you prefer a ready-made solution, give Mashooq’s Deep Penetrating Oil - a unique blend of all these oils to give you optimum results.

Just a few words of caution: be careful with oils, especially if you have nut allergies.
